Another option for hip or knee pain caused by osteoarthritis is Synvisc® (https://www.synviscone.com/what-is-synvisc-one/)
Synvisc® is an injection that supplements your natural joint fluid to temporarily relieve hip or knee pain and improve lubrication and cushioning in your joint. It mimics your natural synovial fluid, helping to temporarily reduce pain associated with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee(1). Some cases have shown that a Synvisc® injection can provide pain relief for up to twelve months, although results will vary for each individual case.

Osteoarthritis of the Knee and Hip
Mild osteoarthritis of the hip or knee may include occasional pain, while moderate to severe osteoarthritis involves a significant loss in the ability for your natural joint fluid to lubricate and cushion the hip or knee joint, causing noticeable pain and difficulty moving. If you suffer from osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, Synvisc ® may be right for you.
In an examination with your orthopaedic surgeon or surgical nurse practitioner, you will be advised whether you are a candidate for Synvisc-One® or Synvisc®, depending on the level of your pain. The injection will be administered in the clinic as an outpatient procedure.
Our orthopaedic medical team can offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment for the temporary relief of pain. The healing of injured or inflamed tissue involves a complex and precisely regulated series of natural processes within the body.
Your body’s own platelets play an important role in this process. At the site of injury they are released, temporarily inhibiting painful inflammation processes. PRP therapy is based on our understanding and may help support the body’s self-healing processes (1,2).

Osteoarthritis
Often, physical activity is restricted by pain caused by osteoarthritis. Typical symptoms in early osteoarthritis include joint ache, morning stiffness, and pain after long periods of inactivity that subside after a short walk. If you are suffering from osteoarthritis, PRP may be right for you.
Injuries
Those with ligament, muscle and tendon injuries from sports or wear and tear may also benefit from PRP, helping to heal faster and reduce pain caused by inflamation.

Once you have had an appointment to assess your suitability for PRP therapy, your plasma is withdrawn from the arm and injected back into the site of the injury, releasing growth factors that initiate the restoration of injured tissue and inhibit painful inflammatory processes.
Studies on PRP therapy have found no known side effects or complications.
