Dr Mark Wilson is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Physician with an interest in image-guided procedures, utilising both ultrasound and fluoroscopy; these modalities include platelet rich plasma (PRP), nerve blocks, viscosupplementation, cortisone injections and radiofrequency techniques. Dr Wilson’s clinical focus is on the diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and complex pain arising from the upper and lower extremities, and the spine. A large proportion of this work revolves around the active management of arthritis, tendinopathies, and neuropathic pain. Dr Wilson’s treatment philosophy is that procedural interventions should be used judiciously to break pain cycles to enhance physical and psychological rehabilitation as part of the overall management plan of getting patients back to sport, work and life.
After working in Orthopaedics for several years, Dr Wilson commenced Sports Medicine specialist training and in 2020 relocated to Canberra for a year to work at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), gaining experience managing High Performance, Olympic and Paralympic athletes. A career highlight was being awarded an Australian Sports Medal for his role as Team Physician for the Australian Rowing team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Dr Wilson also worked with the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Swimming Team in their lead-up to the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris. He continues to provide game day consultant medical services for the NRL.
Dr Wilson’s focus in private practice is helping patients of all ages and levels of activity who want to stay active or relieve their pain. To complement his Sports Medicine practice, Dr Wilson is currently undertaking Pain Medicine specialist training via a Fellowship through the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM), the first Sports Physician in Australasia to be offered this prestigious position. Memberships include the Neuromodulation Society of Australia and New Zealand (NSANZ), the International Association for the Study of Pain and the International Pain & Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS).
