CUSTOMER SERVICES

Referral

  • GP Referral to SCOG.
  • No referral no worries. We can book you in with one of our experienced Nurse practitioners who will provide a full assessment of your condition and if required can refer you onto an orthopaedic surgeon or other allied health professionals.

Consultation

  • We take pride in delivering a high standard of care to our patients, listening, and understanding what matters to you.
  • We will provide a prompt diagnosis and treatment plan optimising non-surgical and surgical options.
  • Our surgeons take time to educate you on your treatment options in this consultation.

Pre-treatment

  • Your orthopaedic surgeon will discuss with you the benefits, risks and expectations of the surgical procedure during your consultation.
  • If required you will attend an education seminar “Joint school” run by our nurse practitioners and if required local physiotherapy partners either in person or via an online recording prior to your procedure. This “Joint School” allows another opportunity to have your questions answered.
  • Patient information sheets will be provided.
  • If required a Medical Physician / Pre-admission clinic consultation booking will be provided to you. Pre and post operative medications including current medications will be discussed in this appointment.
  • Physiotherapy consultation will also be coordinated for you.

Day before surgery

  • You will be phoned by the support team in clinic and provided with your admission times and fasting instructions.
  • A guide to go by is to please not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your admission. Small sips of clear fluids can be consumed up to 2 hours prior to your admission.
  • Please follow all medication advise from the Medical Practitioner appointment.
  • Advise the staff if you have a fever, cough, cold, recent skin/tear or injury as anaesthesia or surgery may not be safe for an elective surgical procedure under some of these conditions.

On the day of surgery

  • Please arrive and present to the hospital reception at your scheduled admission time.
  • Leave all valuables, jewellery, and large sums of money at home.
  • Please do not wear makeup and have nail polish removed.
  • Please remember to bring your imaging films and reports including X-ray, CT or MRI scans to the hospital.
  • The kind hospital staff will take care of everything from here on, ensuring you have all your last-minute questions answered and make you comfortable prior to your procedure.

Day after surgery

  • Your orthopaedic surgeon will see you the day after your surgery.
  • The duration of your stay will depend on the surgical procedure performed and will depend on your recovery, pre-operative health, and function.
  • The surgeon and or physiotherapist will help you get up and about and will advise you on exercises you are to perform.
  • Ice therapy is vital at this point in the recovery programme so please follow all advise from your nursing team.

First week following discharge

  • Post operative care programme will be provided, physiotherapy appointments and a wound review appointment with our nurse practitioners will be made.
  • Home support services and or assistance with personal care will be coordinated prior to your discharge by the ward staff.
